Can you really go into a Muslim country and be a witness there?
Yes, you can! Short, mid or long term, there are both need for and open doors to Christian workers to live and radiate Jesus’ love and truth among Muslims. Earlier this year someone returned from a Muslim country and told this story:
Earthly Paradise Hides a Spiritual Wilderness
I recently visited friend in [location withheld for their security]. They live in paradise! Surrounded by tropical jungles with monkeys, lizards and even wild elephants, they live in a city by the ocean. The crash of the waves soothes you to sleep every night and refreshes your soul as you take the time to walk, pick up shells and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. Fishing boats put out to into deep water in search of their daily catch while the call to prayer echoes from minarets nearby. They live and work among Muslims in a land with a growing economy, especially the tourist industry. Westerners are attracted to the clear waters, white sands, tropical climate and warm hospitality of the people.
These physical realities are a veil hiding the spiritual wilderness beneath. While devout in their religion, the ills of society are growing. AIDS and HIV are on the rise in portions of the population due to prostitution and growing drug abuse. Men then come home, inadvertently infecting their wives and the next generation. Others are abandoning the good moral constraints of their religion as they pursue Western style materialism. Attendance to prayer at the mosque isn’t as strong as we on the outside would expect, as it is simply a cultural norm for everyone to be Muslim.
One day we drove two and a half hours up the coast to another city. There we visited a couple also living and working in the country by God’s call to live among and shine the light and truth of Jesus to Muslims. Along that drive we passed fields of crops dotted with an occasional water buffalo, chickens scratching in yards while children played, and in every little village a mosque along the main road with it’s minaret proudly proclaiming their faith. Between these two cities there are more than 1 million people. Yet, despite these masses of people, there are no churches, no other Christian workers, nor even one single known national Believer to share the life-giving truth of Jesus. Wow! That’s like driving from Toronto and not seeing a single Believer until you’re half way to Ottawa!
This is the reality of spiritual darkness in not only this Muslim country, but in Muslim countries and communities around the world. God’s people are needed to go, in answer to His calling, to live and witness to His truth and love among Muslims worldwide. Is God calling you?
Short term, Mid-term, or Long term?
God’s call is upon every believer. We are all called to worship Him and witness Him to the world. Some are called to be His witnesses among Muslims. As you “test” and work out your understanding of God’s call upon your life a short or mid-term length experience may help. Or, if you have been following God’s leading through personal ministry to Muslims already, you may be ready for the next step: A long term commitment to life “in the field”! We can help you move forward in your calling. Though we are not a “mission” or “sending” agency nor a “short-term mission team” ministry, but we can help you get connected with those who can facilitate God’s call on your life.
